Geez... September 24, 2006 Sometimes I think the babysitters club is too nice. I mean come on, that was not a HORRIBLE prank. It was simply including him, since he was a teacher, perhaps not the best, but still one at SMS. It wasn't even a prank! I must say though that the BSC follies was so funny. "Won't you smell my sesame feet?" not that bad a book, the sensitivity just annoyed me at times.

Jessi has a teacher named Mr. Trout. He is shy so the kids play pranks on him and mean jokes. So when Mr. Trout leaves town and a subtitute goes to them, Jessi plays a prank on the subtitute.
great book! December 10, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For a short amount of time Jessi has a teacher named Mr. Trout. The kids laugh and play pranks on him because he is shy, he lets the kids walk all over him and he wears a toupee and geeky clothes. Jessi agrees to a prank on Mr. Trout asked to do by a classmate because no one else thinks it is mean. But Mr. Trout leaves town and a new, respected teacher, Mr. Bellafatto, replaces him. Jessi's prank was in a teacher parody show she imitated mr. trout. it was really funny when the BSC's charges do a BSC parody show! Marilyn Arnold imitates Kristy and at 5:30 shouts "order! or else!" Vanessa Pike plays Claudia and she stuffs candy into her mouth every 2 seconds, Buddy Barrett plays Logan and Carolyn Arnold plays Mary Anne, who cries every 2 seconds! Margo Pike plays Dawn, eating a bunch of carrots, Becca Ramsey wears a tutu and pretends to be Jessi, Suzi Barrett pretends to be Mal and has a notebook that says 'mal's gratest story' on the front! That was definitely the funniest part!

Ann Martin has a real gift. She is brilliant in creating characters, descriptions, dialogs and plots. Her trademark of having the babysitting charges contend a parallel or similar issue to the sitters is excellent. It is also very effective. Jessi, one of the more appealing characters has a new teacher for a limited period named Mr. Trout. He wears retro clothing, a badly fitting, poorly styled wig and is the subject of cruel teasing by his pupils. During a Teachers' Parody show, Mr. Trout leaves. Jessi, remorseful at having been part of the razzing of Mr. Trout, writes him a really nice letter apologizing for her part in it and asking him to return to Stoneybrook. Mr. Trout wisely declines, having accepted a better position elsewhere. Jessi gets a taste of her own medicine when the kids she sits for do a spoof on the baby sitters. I liked Mr. Trout's replacement, Mr. Bellafatto. Mr. Bellafatto is a smart, stern, no nonsense type and he commands respect. The students know not to push his buttons! He does not beg the kids to like him by letting them walk all over him. He is an adult to be taken seriously and he COMMANDS RESPECT! I liked him. It is a good look and a good explanation of how damaging teasing is and what an adverse effect it can have on people of all ages.
Teachers have feelings, too... October 19, 1999 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Interesting how tough teaching is, especially when you're considered "weird" by the kids as Mr. Trout is. The kids make fun of him & even though Jessi is shocked at first, she doesn't realize how he's affected. I liked how she took responsibility for her part in the prank that caused Mr. Trout to leave SMS for good. My favorite part, though, was when the BSC's charges put on a parody poking fun at the BSC themselves! Of course, it was all in fun. It was so funny how Kristy & Claudia howled, then laughed when they saw themselves being imitated, while shy, sensitive Mary Anne turns such a BRIGHT RED when Carolyn imitates Mary Anne's hyper-sonic-charged crying! Mary Anne does have a funny way of crying in heaving, hyper little blubbering sobs. It was funny how the audience was laughing, including the parents. And once Mary Anne started turning all red, she sure couldn't stop blushing! Wow! That part of the book made me laugh & also made me think.
